Application, Advantages and Disadvantages of Spur Gears
Application, Advantages and Disadvantages of Spur Gears
In practical mechanical design, spur gears are one of the most basic and commonly used transmission parts. People usually apply them to reduce rotating speed and increase output torque, and they can also adapt to high-speed working scenes in some daily consumer products. Typical application scenarios cover household and industrial equipment, including blenders, washing machines, automobiles, bicycles and mechanical clocks.

Advantages and Disadvantages
From my perspective, spur gears have obvious comprehensive advantages. Their structure is simple in overall design, convenient for mass processing and production, which brings low manufacturing cost and stable transmission efficiency. Meanwhile, flexible matching can realize diversified transmission ratios to meet different usage needs.
However, spur gears also have a prominent shortcoming. Due to the straight contact mode during meshing, they are prone to produce relatively loud running noise, which limits their application in low-noise and high-precision environments.
